The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture continues the measures against the pests in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. In the spring of 2020, the National Forestry Agency installed 3,000 pheromone pesticides in the Samtskhe-Javakheti region (Borjomi, Bakuriani, Akhaltsikhe, Adigeni, Aspindza) to control and monitor pest numbers. The Borjomi Plateau is the most damaged area by pests. Due to the area's proximity to the settlement, the plateau is a major recreational place and it is important to save it in order to maintain the ecological condition, as well as to improve the tourist potential of the region. Based on the monitoring results, the Forestry Agency plans to implement complex forest care and restoration measures in the coming years.

The pest - bark beetle in the spruce groves on the territory of the State Forest Fund - was introduced with the imported timber in the 50s of the last century and significantly reduced the quality of forests. The National Forestry Agency has been carrying out control measures against the bark beetle in Samtskhe-Javakheti region on an area of 26,000 hectares since 2013. Constant monitoring, collection, and destruction of pests in insects. In total, up to 25 million pests beetles were caught and decimated in 2013-2020.

In addition to this measure, it is necessary to remove dried and diseased trees from the area, which is done through sanitary felling. It should be noted that the National Forestry Agency, in parallel with the sanitary felling, is also carrying out measures to restore the damaged areas.
